Overview:
SIG Building Solutions was proud to play a key role in the delivery of the RENOLIT solar PV car park project, working closely with Seed Renewables Limited to provide a high‑performance Solar Canopy Structure solution tailored to the client’s operational and sustainability requirements.
Through close coordination with Seed Renewables, and in partnership with Zestec Renewable Energy and powered by Octopus Energy Generation, the project was delivered within a live 24/7 manufacturing environment and successfully energised ahead of programme, demonstrating how well‑engineered Solar Canopy Structures can help unlock maximum generation potential while minimising disruption on site.

- Complete installation with minimal impact on day‑to‑day operations
SIG Building Solutions – Solar Canopy Structure Design & Supply:
SIG Building Solutions was responsible for the design, manufacture and supply of the Solar Canopy Structures, providing a robust, efficient solution engineered to maximise PV output and long‑term durability.
The scheme comprised four wide Gull Wing Solar Canopy Structures, each designed with a central gutter and four PV panels installed on each side, delivering eight PV panels across the width of every canopy. This configuration provides one of the highest power outputs available per canopy footprint, maximising energy generation for RENOLIT.
Key structural features included:
- 1,904 PV panels installed across the canopy structures
- 866 kWp of installed solar capacity supported by the canopies
- Superstructure: 60 tonnes of galvanised steel
- Substructure: 10 tonnes of galvanised steel stubs
All steelwork was fully galvanised to ensure long‑term performance and resilience in an operational car park environment.
Efficient Manufacturing & Logistics
To support programme certainty and reduce transport impact, the Solar Canopy Structures were manufactured at SIG Building Solutions’ factory in Carlisle, located just 74 miles from site.
- Three main deliveries were made directly from the Carlisle facility
- Reduced transport distances helped improve lead times, streamline installation and minimise disruption
This localised manufacturing approach supported efficient sequencing on site and, combined with effective on-site project delivery by the EPC contractor, Seed Renewables, and close client collaboration, the project was completed ahead of schedule.
Efficient Manufacturing & Logistics:
As part of the canopy design, two EV beams were installed between canopy posts, enabling EV charge points to be incorporated without the need for additional plinths or standalone posts.
All cabling was concealed within the canopy structure, delivering a clean, integrated solution that enhances functionality while maintaining a tidy car park environment.
Project Performance & Outcomes:
The completed Solar Canopy Structure installation now delivers significant operational and environmental benefits:
- 866 kWp of solar capacity supported by SIG canopies
- Contribution to a wider 1.76 MWp on‑site solar PV system
- 1.47 million kWh of clean electricity generated annually
- 331 tonnes of CO₂ reduction in year one
- Delivered ahead of programme with no disruption to 24/7 manufacturing operations
